About This Activity

Description

We're sorry, but this program is over. The last meeting was Sunday, November 17, 2024.

For over 50 years, Hill House has run quality athletics programs for children in the Boston area. Starting in September, 2018, Hill House hosted the inaugural BOSTON NFL FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE, an officially licensed NFL Flag program. Flag Football is a non-contact version of football, allowing for skill development and fun. All teams and leagues are co-ed and take place on Sunday mornings in Boston from September-November. The league is open to children city-wide and we've welcomed players from all neighborhoods of Boston.
The SENIOR LEAGUE will be offered for GRADE 4 & 5 players. This program will introduce formal games and continue development of the fundamentals for all players. Staff or volunteer coaches will lead teams through a regular schedule of games that ends with a fun and competitive playoff tournament to find our champion!
Season Structure:
  • 90 minute sessions.
  • Sessions will include a 30-40 minute practice before games.
  • Co-ed teams are created and led by Hill House staff and parent/local volunteers.
  • We will have as many teams of 8-10 players as we can field, but will most likely have 4-6 teams based on prior season enrollment.
  • Teams will be created after the first session which will run as a friendly skill clinic for only 60 minutes, and will help us sort all players into even teams to the best of our ability.
  • The season will consist of a regular season schedule of games before ending with a competitive tournament to find our champion!
  • Playoffs may feature double-headers that start earlier or end later based on team seeding.
  • As long as the weather permits, our last session will be a fun all-star style celebration where we come together as a league again and play outside our season long teams. This session will also run for only 60 minutes.

Equipment:
  • Players will all receive a reversible NFL team branded jersey and an NFL flag belt to keep.
  • Players should also opt to wear sneakers over cleats for this turf field. If players opt to wear cleats then they should be non-metal cleats.
  • Mouth guards are encouraged but not required.
  • Our jerseys are Youth Large for this league (please leave a note in the registration page if you require a larger size).

Game Format:
  • All games will be 5-on-5, with 8-10 players per roster.
  • There will be two 20 minute halves with a 2 minute half time.
  • Fields will be approximately 20x60 yards.
  • Referee decisions will be final.

Notes on Awards:Like all Hill House programs this league puts fun first, but it is still competitive. We believe this format helps invest and excite players, while also teaching them what it means to be part of a team. As a result this league does not feature participation trophies, and instead rewards the league champion team and a few individual players across the league with trophies. We use these trophies to celebrate achievement, but more importantly to inspire all the players in the league to keep practicing and working towards the fun goals their peers have reached. We highlight players with great work ethic, sportsmanship, and commitment to improve, because we want to motivate all our players to model those traits and become the best they can be.
Team Assignments:*Please note: regarding friend requests, this is a competitive league and Hill House will have final say regarding team placements. All teammate applications are not official, though we will do what we can to accommodate on a case-by-case basis. Skill balance between teams will come first.*
Please read the notes on this page carefully, and email jking@hillhouseboston.org if you have any questions before the season starts, or if you register less than a week before the program begins.

Important guidelines and notes for this season:
  • Families are expected to have a guardian or caretaker remain on-site.
  • If families need to leave then they MUST CHECK-IN with Hill House Staff when dropping off, and SIGN-OUT when picking up.
  • If games are cancelled due to inclement weather or the instructor being unavailable, we will do our best to reschedule them but we will not extend the season.
  • Sessions and season structure may change to accommodate double-header games if necessary due to excessive rain cancellations.
  • If our playoffs are disrupted by rain we will cancel our all-star celebration session and reschedule our playoffs then.
  • We are unfortunately unable to provide individual make-up classes if the participant is absent.
  • An administrative fee ($20) may be applied for withdrawal requests after the start of the season.
  • All Hill House families are expected to abide by our Code of Conduct—treating our staff, volunteers, and other families with respect. Violations will be reported, and multiple violations may result in action, including removal from programs.
