Staff advisor: Erica Quihuiz Email: erica.quihuiz@basisindependent.com Student Advisor: Alex Dates: Friday with the first meeting on 9/6 and the last on 5/2 Time: 4:10 PM–5:10 PM Grades: 8–12 Cost: $235 Description: A ‘Biotope’ is a naturalistic aquarium that is meant to recreate a fish’s natural environment. We will be creating one, or potentially several, of these aquariums! On top of this, we will explore other advanced aquarium-keeping practices, including setting up fish farms, entering aquarium competitions, and engineering appliances to automate our aquarium maintenance! Our projects will be displayed in the art room, and there will be opportunities to showcase what we have done for the school. We will engage in many community service projects about conservation as well, so there will be plenty of time to fill in volunteer hours! Since our club is relatively small, there are many leadership opportunities; motivated members have the chance to create and organize their own conservation projects that they can grow with support from the entire club. We hope to teach everyone about conservation and aquariums through our Biotopes, and also help better the environment in which we live.
