This hands-on experience helps children develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. It also fosters interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and teaches valuable life skills like teamwork, communication, and perseverance. In the upcoming SUBMERGED challenge, FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future. The LightningBots typically meet as an after-school class in the fall on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:40 PM, with additional meetings during Friday electives from 2:00 to 2:45 PM in the first trimester. Our teams usually consist of 6-8 members, and we will form teams based on the number of students who enroll in the after-school class. The competition season runs throughout the fall and includes a preseason tournament, a qualifying tournament, and potentially regionals. Please note that parents will need to pick up their children from the Tech Lab on Mondays, as our meetings will end after the ASE carpool concludes. Families are welcome to park in the Corner lot for convenience. During the winter term, attendance is optional, with meetings on Mondays from 3:00 to 3:55 PM. However, participation becomes essential in the spring term, where we meet on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:40 PM to prepare for the Spring Showdown and recruit 4th graders as new team members.
