A Fishing Net
1 of 6Most ponds are filled with minnows and fish. A handheld net is a great way to catch fish that are close to shore without needing a rod and bait. It's also a great way to get kids active by walking around, searching for and catching fish. You don't have to go in very far, and it makes for a fun game of catch and release.
A Pail

A Shovel
3 of 6Digging is a lot of fun for kids. They love to get down and dirty. Whether it's making a castle, digging a hole or searching for buried treasure, having a shovel on hand at any trip to the pond is a must.
Bread
4 of 6Many ponds have friendly residents in the form of ducks and birds. Bring a loaf of bread and let the kids enjoy feeding them. You can even play little games, such as counting how many ducks you see and feed.
Snacks or Lunch
5 of 6After all that fishing, shoveling and duck feeding, you'll be sure to work up an appetite. Make sure you have plenty of snacks on hand for you and the kids. A picnic lunch is always a great way to end a great trip to the pond -- just make sure the ducks know which food is for you and which is for them.
